Overall though this movie turned out well definitely one of the better Steven King adaptations. The acting was great from everyone which you don't usually find out of child actors, River Pheonix and Will Wheaton exspecially gave great performances.
This movie is about a Man who tells a story of his past. It begins with 4 young boys in a small town in the 1950s. One day they hear of a dead body in the woods somewhere so they decide to go look for it. At first they are having a goodtime but then they become somewhat obsessed with seeing this corpse.
This movie was really good but I truly hate Carl Reiner. This is his only good work ever... I hate his movies and I hate everything he stands for. You should not support fascism or Carl Reiner because thats really all he is.

. Stand by me movie essay. In the 1986 movie Stand By Me what made Gordie write their story. In the film Stand by Me, there are two groups of boys-to-men who are tribal in their relationships. One lead by "Ace" exist to destroy, bully, and inflict pain. The other led by "Chris" exist to find adventure, experience life without authority, and create opportunities to be heroes, even if misguided. Traditionally, as in West Side Story, the two gangs would meet and fight it out, over a woman or an insult. In this film, the two gangs compete for notoriety about discovering a dead kid's body, which is a sign of the times and the culture they live in. Life moved pretty slowly back then, and kids had to use their imaginations. I enjoyed how the film moved very calmly from one event to the next, using kick ass writing and acting instead of special effects to make the film interesting. Usually that combination is only found in independent films, so it's a credit to Rob Reiner and the perfect casting of the young, extremely talented actors, as well as the talented screen writing that this film will remain a classic for all time. River Phoenix stole the film, and established himself as one of the most gifted actors of all time. I thought Will Wheaton was a little stiff, but his fragile doe-eyed looks provided attributes to his character that his acting lacked. Corey Feldman was perfect as the child of a crazed post-traumatic war fierce with innocently displaced loyalty to his abusive father. "Vern" was perfect as the nervously chattering fat kid who only wanted to be accepted as part of the group, less complex emotionally, and mostly interested in food. Keifer Sutherland was a little too convincing as the sadistic bully with his eternal sneer and dead eyes. His supportive crew were convincing as "tough guy" followers and wannabe gang members for that period of time. It would have been satisfying to hear what became of "Ace" and his gang in the final narration. I think Richard Dreyfuss was grossly miscast as the adult version of Will Wheaton's character, first of all because there is NO RESEMBLANCE whatsoever. Overall, the film is ageless as evidenced by the fact that my 18 year old son watched it recently and loved it as one of his favorite movies. It must speak to those feelings and emotions young males are reluctant to express openly; and the loyalties that develop between young boys who don't have great relationships with their fathers. Somehow the film is comforting in that way, and for that, it has accomplished the greatness of art imitating life.
